Governance requires right intent

Speaking at Moneylife Foundation’s 4th anniversary, Dr Ashok Khemka, while reiterating that he would not join politics, said, good governance is not a rocket science and all it requires is right intent

Dr Ashok Khemka, an amazing Whistle-blower and Secretary to Government of Haryana delivered a short but powerful speech about good governance, justice and equality, to a packed hall at Moneylife Foundation’s 4th Anniversary in Mumbai.

Addressing a crowd of over 500 prominent citizens, activists and whistle-blowers, Dr Khemka said, “Governance is not a rocket science. All it requires is a good neeyat or right intent. For good governance, justice and equality, one has to be effectively good and honest.”

Talking about being called a ‘whistle-blower, Dr Khemka said, “I am not a whistle-blower as whatever I did and am doing is part of my duty and responsibilities. I will continue to do my duty. This is not about whistle-blowing, it is about doing your duty effectively.”

Machine Readable Passport (MRP) – Mandatory

MRP is a machine readable travel document where the data on the identity page is encoded in Optical Character Recognition (OCR) format. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has set a deadline of 24th November 2015 for globally phasing out all non MRPs.

Therefore Indian citizens residing in India and abroad and holding hand writer passports with validity beyond 24th November 2015 should apply for reissue of passports and obtain MRP passports well before the deadline in order to avoid inconvenience in obtaining visa and Immigration problems as per instruction from Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India.Please read attachment for more details

Are doctors and hospitals solely driven by commercial motives?

One is saddened and angry reading about the untimely demise of Justice J S Verma, allegedly due to the negligence of the doctors at Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon. But the long-suffering common man may see a silver lining: finally, the issue of medical negligence is under the scanner. Justice Verma’s death is a wake-up call to the nation’s leading citizens, ruling class and intellectuals.

Thirty-four eminent personalities, including former Chief Justice MN Venkatachaliah, former Justice RS Sodhi, former Solicitor General Soli Sorabjee, former Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramaniam and activist Aruna Roy, have written to the Prime Minister pledging their support for looking into the alleged negligence of Medanta Hospital. Pinning responsibility for Justice Verma’s death on and prosecuting those responsible will help send a message to the entire medical fraternity. But it will be a miracle if that makes the medical community more careful in future.

To check your Aadhaar linkage status please visit the transparency portal of your LPG Company.

Following are the steps to check your Aadhaar linking status at Transparency Portal.

    • Step 2: Enter all the details under “Normal Search” and press Proceed Button. 
  • Step 3: Search your details by entering your Consumer No. or Consumer Name under Search By option and press Enter to know your Aadhaar linking status in LPG and Banks.

Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG consumer (DBTL) is the scheme aimed to improve the subsidy administration of LPG across the country. As per this scheme an LPG consumer will get his/her cylinder at full market price and the differential between subsidized price and full market price i.e. the subsidy will be transferred to his/her bank account upto a capped limit(9 cylinders in a year) .

Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG consumer (DBTL) is the scheme aimed to improve the subsidy administration of LPG across the country. As per this scheme an LPG consumer will get his/her cylinder at full market price and the differential between subsidized price and full market price i.e. the subsidy will be transferred to his/her bank account. Following are the key features of this scheme:

  •  Under this scheme, all LPG consumers will start receiving their LPG cylinders at full market price and will get their subsidy directly in their bank accounts upto a capped limit(9 cylinders in a year)of LPG cylinder.
    • To become eligible for this scheme an LPG consumer has to first become CASH TRANSFER COMPLAINT consumer. To become CASH TRANSFER COMPLAINT consumer one has to complete these 3 easy steps, as follows:
      • Received his/her Aadhaar Number
      • Linked his/her Aadhaar number to LPG consumer number.
      • Linked his/her Aadhaar number to Bank account.
    • After completing these 3 steps the Cash Transfer Complaint consumer will start receiving his/her LPG subsidy directly in their bank account.

In all other cases of foreigners, and those Indian nationals who are not residents of India/ Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), it is prohibited under Indian law to either take any amount of Indian currency from India or to bring it into India,”

Don’t Drink and Drive, sings Dr Dilip Nadkarni to usher a public awareness campaign. Dr Dilip Nadkarni performed this act at a weekly meeting of Rotary club of Bombay Seacoast. A special team from Mumbai Police force conducted a Breath analysis for volunteers during the cocktail hour. It was an eye opener that even a small amount of alcohol altered our judgment and tested positive on the breathalyzer. The program was organized by Rotary President Rajesh Shah.
